NOTICE TO THE PUBLIC REGARDING ILLINOIS DISTRIBUTING COMPANY Distributors of Anheuser Busch products including but not limited to BUDWEISER, BUD LIGHT, BUSCH & MICHELOB family of beers
This notice is to inform the public of the unilateral actions taken against the Union employees of Illinois Distributing Company. Approximately 6 months ago, Teamsters Local 50 began negotiating the contract of the union members of Illinois Distributing Company. This process began with a list of contractual DEMANDS from Illinois Distributing Company. The elimination of a guaranteed 40 hour work week, elimination of overtime pay, new pay structures that would potentially result in anywhere from 20% to 25& reduction in pay, change from the union health plan to an inferior company plan and a significant reduction in retirement benefits were only a FEW of the things that this company was DEMANDING rather than negotiating. Along with these economic demands, Illinois Distributing has eliminated sections of the contract that give an employee the right to use their seniority without the company's approval. In addition, the job security provisions in the old contract have been re-worded by the company so as to grant them freedom to terminate an employee for nearly any minor infraction.
Illinois Distributing Company is the exclusive distributor of Anheuser Busch products in this area and has experienced significant growth and expansion as evidenced by the multi-million dollar, state of the art warehouse on Highway 15 in west Belleville and the acquisition of Koerber Distributing and it's territory in Waterloo. In addition, IDC has dramatically expanded it's product line further increasing their profit margin and sales volume. Should all this growth come at the expense of the union drivers? Does this sound like a financially troubled company? We don't think so either. After six months of trying to negotiate a more than fair contract with the Illinois Distributing Company they insist on their demands for drastic concessions in pay, pension and health care benefits. On Thursday 09/13/07 a vote was taken at Teamsters Local #50 Union Hall on the best, last and final offer from Illinois Distributing. The members of Local #50 voted it down with a unanimous rejection of the company's demands. Now that these unacceptable demands have been rejected, Illinois Distributing has moved to implement and force these demands on the union members as of 09/24/07. This is clearly a union breaking attempt by Illinois Distributing. The united members of Teamsters Local #50 now ask the public, is this the type of activity we want in our community? A company that is extremely profitable and has in the past paid a fair wage is now forcing a substandard contract on the loyal, long time employees who through their hard work, have contributed so much to make this company what it is today. The union employees still hold out hope that the company will return to the negotiating table that NEVER WAS at impasse.
In support of Local #50's members and families, we ask the public that you boycott any and all Anheuser Busch products distributed by Illinois Distributing Company in the counties of St. Clair, Monroe and south west Madison until a fair contract is ratified. Your support is GREATLY appreciated!
